Because that’s how God made them. Not all African Americans who have light skin are related to Native Americans or Whites.

Caucasians have different skin tones as well, it’s just each of our pigment, yes some of it comes from genetics & where your ancestors are from.

People of EVERY ethnic group can and do have different skin tones–and undertones!

White people come in many shades as do black people and Indian people and Asian and Hispanic…

Some of them are mixed with other races. Do you find something wrong with that? , because I sure don’t , I find that awsome..

  8. capturedheart143 on November 14th, 2008 10:50 pm

The same reason Whites, Hispanics, and well the world has different skin tones.

Skin tone is caused by various amounts of pigment in your skin. The different amounts of pigment cause different tones to be visible.

it could mean that you have white or native american blood lines… or, it could simply be that you have differing amounts of pigment in your skin.

Eveyone has different skin tones!!! so do white, mexicans, native americas! etc.. It goes way back in ur ancestry and it runs in your genes!!!!!!! if the mother is black and had nothing but black genes but marries a black man with white, mexica, or indian genes, they child they have might have black feature but might be lighter tone. Then he can marry another woman with nothing but black genes and has two kids, one can be lighter and the other darker but they are carriers of dark and light genes!!! it goes the same with every race!!!

All ethnicities have different skin tones. Like, there’s white people who are literally white, and there’s also white people who are tan. There’s light skinned Chaldeans and dark skinned Chaldeans. Same goes with every ethnicity.

  12. lovelyday on November 21st, 2008 5:51 pm

Yes Kelis that is why we have different skin shades.

  13. poetica on November 23rd, 2008 4:49 am

Not necessarily. Btw…other races have variations in skin tones too.

People all have different skin tones based on their ancesters and the cultures they have mixed with. This is more obvious here because of our mixing pot culture, especially when compared to black people in Africa or Aborigines in Australia. These people all tend to be closer in skin tone because ethnically they are closer in ethnic background than we are, but overall, even they display some variety in color.

Africa is a large continent- many tribes or clans all having unique physical features. Genetics is a roll of the dice, some genes being recessive and others dominant. When a man and woman of different tribes mate a combination of genes makes up baby. Baby then mates with yet another tribe and there you have the differences in physical appearance. She or he may pass on a lighter skin tone or curlier hair.
Eventually DNA sciences will be able to trace our origins, but until then lets celebrate the differences.

  18. proud2besolo on November 26th, 2008 11:06 am

  21. b_bop708 on December 4th, 2008 10:37 am

You’re on the right track girly! From a geographical perspective, Black people are spread throughout the earth so our surroundings affect not only our skin tone but our physical features. You’ll find many Black people that are very light, yet beautiful, and then in other parts of a country or the world you may find Black people that are so dark that their skin has a purplish hue (beautiful also). From a historical perspective, i hope that you know that Black people were enslaved for hundreds of years. Black slaves were ***** by their slavemasters and produced lighter complexions of children. People are people of course. Dark mixed with light. Light mixed with lighter. Dark mixed with dark. This produced various complexions of people. This not only occurred among Black people and whites but other nationalities as well… latino, asian, indian, native-american.

Different parts of Africa or mixed.

  26. Saphire4 on December 14th, 2008 8:00 am

African American have different skin tones because they are mixed. Even Indian (South Asian) and Hispanics have different skin tones.
