What would be some good books to teach a child more about African American heritage?

I recently got custody of a child who is half African American. But she does not know anything about the heritage. She wants to learn. So I decided to get her some books to help her, but don’t know what ones would be good for her. She is 10 years old.

Anything by Maya Angelou. Not only is her writing beautiful, but it also is comprised of real-life situations and conflict.
Zora Neale Hurston’s novel Their Eyes Were Watching God is one of the most poetic, women-empowering novels out there. Everything is subtle, so she won’t understand some aspects of the novel.
Lorraine Hansberry’s Raisin in the Sun is incredible. It’s about poor black family in Chicago,
Most of those books you’d probably have to read to her. For something on her reading level go for Meet Addy: An American Girl by Connie. Or White Lilacs by Carolyn Meyer
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry- MIldred Taylor
Hope that helps.
